- Is it just me but why are some toilets in El Gouna establishments disgusting?
-
- Now I never relish having to use a 'public' facility but sometimes when you have to go you just have no choice!
-
- Yesterday afternoon on a visit to Moods I had the need to visit the ladies - now I could never understand why these were changed from 2 ladies loos to only a solitary one - but maybe thats another story for another day!
-
- Anyway this was my findings -
- Floor covered in maybe water maybe something else it was covered so no place to put bag
- No paper
- Filthy toilet (as well as stained porcelain)
- Filthy walls
- Generally disgusting.
- In my opinion needs to be completely refurbished and new facilities installed!
-
- Doing a balancing act on one leg holding clothes off floor in one hand and holding bag in the other my experience was far from a good one and not for the first time but it was the worst I had ever experienced there.
-
- Also in my opinion the cleanliness of the toilets reflects the overall standards especially of the kitchen.
-
- Now to me a place the size of Moods ought to have numerous toilet facilities for ladies and gents as huge numbers of people use them on a daily basis.
-
- Also a toilet attendant would be nice to keep them at least stocked with essentials and free from spillages etc.
-
- Paying the premium prices charged there...is it really asking too much?
-
- I did complain and was told it had been attended to but I was not brave enough to go and check for myself and the speed at which I was informed it was sorted I doubt it really was!
-
- Another bad one has always been at Tamr Henna - I just stopped using that one a long time ago!
-
- Anyway it got me thinking. There are some establishments with lovely loos - to name a couple - Maritim , 7th star and Zia Amelia - there are more...these are just examples.
-
- So why not have a 'loo award' and star rating for loos - good and bad and it might get a clean up act started we we can all enjoy the time we have to be in there without wondering what you came out with that you never went in with!
-
- Being clean does not mean it has to cost a huge amount - regular disinfection, ensuring supplies of soap and paper are available, clean floors, doors and door handles and clean walls and good lighting. I am not expecting gold taps, piped music, flowers and automatic air fresheners (although it would all be nice).
-
- Is this just me?
-
- Meanwhile I will continue taking my hand wipes and hand sanitiser with me wherever I venture!
-
- Rant over.

[el-gouna:11720] Digest for el-gouna@googlegroups.com
- MOHAMED GAZI <m.gazi@btinternet.com> Sep 06 10:00PM +0100
- It is always encouraging to see new blood and new energy in support of our elgouna community. It is great that people are getting together talking about how could they help in one way or another in resolving some issues and how they could contribute to improve others. It all sound great. But there is a crucial member of this equation who make things happen, it is the elgouna management.
-
- In the past, we talked and talked again as owners and residents. For fairness, the management listened but very little they did. When would the management listen and do though? I am not sure if the management would be enthusiastic to do any thing during this economical hardship. I am not also sure if the management would be listening to the feeble voice of the few. We simply have to wait until the grass is green and until we are able to speak with one strong voice. Splinter group of owners may dilute our objectives and blur our focus which may not help on the long run. Perhaps we should be thinking of ways to get us together along the same route. Mayara; good luck in your efforts any way.

Riot in Elgouna
- MOHAMED GAZI <m.gazi@btinternet.com> Sep 06 11:30PM +0100
- First issue;
- Today is Friday, the town was busy with lots of people joining the street festival at the `marina. `Life as it should be. Truly elgouna is still as safe as ever, but this should not make us complacent.
- Following the incidence at the stadium a week ago and what happened to the interior minister in
- Cairo two days ago security at the elgouna gates must be more vigilant than ever. It is hoped that this point of view is taken seriously by the management. How the security should be tightened is up to the professional and our security manager.
- Second issue;
- Words were said on these pages about attracting foreign visitors to elgouna. Orascom would also love to find foreign buyers for their new projects around elgouna. In fact Orascom had spent a lot of money in the past marketing their villas and apartment in Europe to attract European buyers and investors and have done well. Sadly, very little is done today by Orascom to encourage those Europeans not to sell their properties and go back to where they came from. Very little is done today by Orascom to hold on their past achievement and those foreign owners. Very little is done by Orascom to assure their foreign elgouna owners and attract them to come back. Many I know have decided to spend less and less time in elgouna based on wrong perception of the current political environment. Some also had decided to sell their properties all together based on the wrong perception about security and the financial market. There is a lot to be done to help our community
- but we really should start from within. How we should pursue this strategy would depend on Orascom vision and the loyalty of elgouna residents.
-
- Good luck every one.

- In fear of being shot down in flames I would just like to add my
- personal perspective on this as I am receiving messages from friends
- abroad now afraid to return to their homes in El Gouna! Rather than reply to them personally I decided to reply via the Group.
-
- I'm a big fan of Egyptian football and have enjoyed many a big match in Tamr
- Henna Square. Sadly the Egyptian Premier League was cancelled due to the
- unrest. The football stadium was built in El Gouna because the town's
- team qualified into the Premier league.
-
- For sure I was concerned at the end of July when both Cairo giants
- Al-Ahly and Zamalek were due to play a match for the CAF Championship
- League in El Gouna stadium. I don't think either team were looking
- forward to this match because they hoped to play under the spotlights in
- the cooler evenings in Cairo rather than run around under the blazing
- sun for 90 minutes whilst fasting during Ramadan. There are no
- spotlights in El Gouna stadium. The CAF (Confederation of African
- Football) said that teams would be disqualified if supporters were
- present at the match. On the day of the match, from my roof terrace in central El Gouna and many
- kilometers away from the stadium in El Bustan, I could see some buses
- parked on the main road opposite Bustan. The fans were allowed in the
- stadium and they put on a complete show before kick of,f involving their red
- smoke, white streamers and red umbrellas. I think El Gouna recycling had
- a lot of work that day! The fans were immediately
- escorted back to their coaches after the match. Some clips on You Tube:
-
- The fans and their 'weapons'
-
- Match highlights
- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlAon0U_tEk
-
- There were then matches with other African teams I think without fans, and the
- teams and their mangers, etc. staying in various El Gouna hotels.
-
- We then had two matches Saturday 31st August and Sunday 1st September:
- Ahly v AC Leopards from Congo and Zamalek v Orlando Pirates from South
- African. The other African teams arrived early and stayed in El Gouna a
- few days with their entourage. This is what the Ahly Manager said about the decision to play in El Gouna:
-
- Ahly coach Mohamed Youssef suggested at the
- weekend he would rather have played outside Egypt than in El Gouna
- because of the heat.
- "I'm really dismayed with the decision to
- play there; the pitch is so poor, temperature is high and air currents
- there affect our game," he told reporters.
-
- This is a 3 minute video of the match:
-
- Tuning in late and missing the clashes just before the first match, I have to say I really enjoyed both matches this weekend watching
- on TV. They were exciting and both Egypt Lawyer Cairo giants won putting Al-Ahly in a really good position in Group A behind the Pirates.
-
- I saw some Arabic headlines yesterday on Facebook saying Al
- Ahly/Zamalek Egypt Lawyer devastated tourism in Hurghada!! I think we have to keep
- this in perspective. With the Egyptian premier league cancelled the
- country really needs some good Egypt Lawyer football matches to watch. The top
- players need match practise also for their world cup qualifying matches. The Egyptian National Team are very close to qualifying for the 2014
- World Cup. If they do it will be the first time in nearly 25 years!!!!
- El Gouna has also been very busy recently with visitors from Cairo escaping the early curfew. There have been parties all over town and a great atmosphere. The curfew has now been changed to 11pm and El Gouna now has gone eerily quiet! The hotel next door to me has mainly empty sunbeds on the beach and around the pool. Business owners are very worried. Perhaps Security can reassure those owners escaping the August heat in Europe that the town is safe to return to?!?
- Best regards

- Yesterday there was a football match in the elgouna stadium and an important one too. Only 2000 spectators were allowed because of the current political upheaval the country is going through. With only 2000 spectators one would expect good crowd control and little disturbance? However, fighting broke up between the spectators in and out of the stadium that led to the recall of the army and the police. But hey, fighting in a football match is not unusual is it? Unfortunately, this incidence is different and had caused me a great concern along with other many owners. First, the fighting was between spectators of the same team sport wise but of rival parties politically, one for the Moslem brotherhood and one against. Second, fireworks and probably other body harming Egypt Lawyer tools were available during the fight to both sides. Third and the most important is that the incidence happened within the ground of our homes in elgouna. I for one thought that elgouna is a
- private property hence we neither have a police station nor Egypt Lawyer police patrol. Thus, how and why these people were allowed in elgouna and close to our homes. What right the elgouna management has to subject us the owners to such risks of life and properties. How these people were allowed to bring fireworks and alike to Egypt Lawyer elgouna when we invest a lot in security. Where were our security staff at the gates and what they were doing. Did they do body search for those spectators before entering elgouna for instance or just waved the flag? If fireworks were smuggled in, what else could be smuggled in before the security staff responsibilities are raised up to standard. I really think elgouna management has a lot to answer for and is about time for our manager to tell us what is going on in this place rather than living in the shadow.
